The building is in use as a shop today, so what it was built for is no longer what happens inside it: a muvakkithane was where the hour and the exact times of prayer were determined and announced.
It was built in 1831-32 by Halil Kamil Ağa, the mütesellim of Kütahya, who held the rank of chief gatekeeper. It is long and rectangular in plan, of cut stone, under a wide-eaved roof covered in tiles. It is in the Balıklı quarter, in the city centre.
