Körteke Kalesi stands on a high hill called Kale Tepe northeast of Körteke village in Bozdoğan, Aydın — one of what the provincial directorate calls the Lelegian hill towns of inner Caria. It suggests the town was probably Xyatis, without stating it.
Traces of different periods survive on the castle walls, which the directorate takes as showing the site was used across several ages.
The acropolis sits on the rocky summit, with a tower at each of its eastern and western ends and a cistern between them. An inner wall with three towers closes it from the south; the directorate dates that wall to the fifth century BC on its own reading.
