Kandil castle was built on a hill by the Byzantines in the first quarter of the fourth century, to strengthen the castles to the east and to block entry into the Erzen region.
It stands south of the village of Bölükkonak, also called Hergemo, on the old road to Sason, six kilometres north-west of the Kozluk district of Batman. The source says nothing about its condition today.
