The thing this mosque is best known for is not in it: its metal door, with the dragon-figured knockers on it, is in the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in İstanbul.
The building has come down through additions and repairs made at various times, and it carries eight inscriptions. From these it is understood that the mosque was built in the years 1155-1160, in the period of the Atabegs of Mosul, and repaired in 1203 and 1284; the last restoration was carried out in 2007 by the General Directorate of Foundations. It is in the Dağ Kapı quarter in the centre of Cizre.
