Altındere valley was declared a national park on 9 September 1987, and it covers 4,800 hectares in Trabzon province. The valley is narrow-floored and climbs to 2,800 metres, with small waterfalls along it, broken ground, old natural forest and a rich plant and animal life — the grounds given in the decree.
The park is 47 kilometres from Trabzon and is reached by surfaced road; the roads running to the plateaus inside it are gravel or dirt. Opening hours are from 07:00 to 23:59, and the capacity recorded is 26,397 visitors and 276 vehicles — a figure that says plainly how busy this valley gets.
