The Tokat Culture House stands on Sulu Sokak, set among the medrese, tombs, city inn, bath, covered market and mosque of that street. Built in the baroque manner, it is an example of the domestic architecture of Tokat and of the architectural heritage of the country, and held rooms that merchants and travellers could rent.
Its front faces the walls of a seventeenth-century pasha's inn. Apart from the basement, the house is of two storeys with mudbrick infill, plastered with soft lime, and a wooden roof.
The rooms are set in pairs to the left of the hall on both floors. The rooms facing the garden, laid out for privacy, are decorated far more carefully than those facing the street, with carved ceilings, malakari plaster fireplaces and cupboards.
