The Meşeli fairy chimneys, also known as the Şavşat fairy chimneys, are rock formations in the woodland of the village of Meşeli in the Şavşat district of Artvin, in the southern part of the village, brought to light by a landslide.
According to what the villagers say, they appeared in the early 1960s. A landslide in woodland of spruce carried away the soil lying over the bedrock, and the chimney-shaped rock formations beneath it became visible. The woodland where they stand falls within the boundaries of the Karagöl-Sahara National Park, and the formations are spread over the south-facing slopes of the ridge called Golonat Tepesi, which forms the southern boundary of Lake Çil.
The chimneys are reached by an unsurfaced road, and they carry weight for tourism: visitors coming to Karagöl are expected to be able to see Lake Çil, just to its north, and the fairy chimneys as well.
