The Osmancalı fossil forest covers 33.39 hectares in the Osmancalı neighbourhood of the Yunusemre district of Manisa and was registered as a natural monument on 11 September 2024.
The petrification happened when the Yunt Dağı volcanoes erupted: trees carried along in the lahar flow were buried in it and turned to stone. The petrified trunks lie on gently sloping ground between Küçükdede Dağı at 360 metres, Bağlar Tepe at 404 and Beştepe at 420, within the tuff cover.
One thing to expect: fieldwork found that only a limited number of the petrified trunks are visible at the surface.
The site is 25 kilometres from Manisa and 500 metres east of Osmancalı, and the road to it is asphalt.
