Muratlı exists because of the population exchange. Under the clause of the Treaty of Lausanne of 24 July 1923 covering the exchange of migrants, the town was founded in 1934-35 to settle some of the Turks who came from Bulgaria.
On 3 June 1936 Mustafa Kemal Atatürk came to Muratlı to see for himself how the migrant housing being built there was progressing, and was a guest in a house opposite the railway station. The daughter of the family living in it served him coffee; the house was well furnished by the standards of the day and he was pleased, and he dictated to her four lines addressed to the fortunate migrant, telling them not to forget the third of June.
The house is single-storey, with three rooms and a kitchen. It now holds photographs of Atatürk's visit to Muratlı, along with ethnographic material.
