The Kayseri clock tower stands in Cumhuriyet Square and was built in 1906 on the order of Sultan Abdülhamid II. It was raised with the support of Haydar Bey, governor of Kayseri; the building work was undertaken by Salih Usta of Tavlusun, and the cost was met by the provincial special administration.
The tower is of cut stone, square in plan, with a spiral interior. It is fifteen metres high and climbed by winding stairs, and there is a weathervane on its zinc roof. The clock mechanism, brought from Leipzig, drives dials facing in four directions.
When the Kayseri delegates who had attended the Sivas Congress returned home, the Kayseri branch of the Society for the Defence of the Rights of Anatolia and Rumelia was opened here.
A model of the Kayseri clock tower stands in the Witness of Time Clock Towers Park at Safranbolu, opened in 2012.
