Karagöl Nature Park lies at Karagöl in the Menemen district of İzmir, twenty-seven kilometres from Karşıyaka, and covers 18.92 hectares.
The lake and the ground around it fall into clear bands. Spiked water-milfoil is one of the dominant species living submerged in the lake, with curled pondweed and shining pondweed also notable. At the meadow stage come species such as creeping bent and strawberry clover. White willows ring the lake and form the tree layer, some of them carrying ivy, and beyond the willows Calabrian pine, black pine and cypress take over.
The animal life is varied: worms, molluscs and snails, arthropods, scorpions, millipedes, woodlice and centipedes, grasshoppers, bees and ants, frogs, tortoises, lizards and snakes, sparrowhawks and falcons, woodpeckers, nightingale, blackbird, chaffinch, starling and crows, hedgehog, mole, squirrel, mouse, fox, marten, weasel and wild boar. There is carp in the lake.
The park serves as a day-use area and as a site for tents and caravans, with picnic tables, a fountain, a children's playground, a walking path, a country restaurant and a kiosk.
Getting there
The nature park cannot be reached by public transport.
