The Jews, who formed a small part of the population of Gaziantep in the Ottoman period, had a synagogue large enough for their community in the quarter known as the Jewish quarter. The Aleppo yearbooks record the year of its building as 1886.
The synagogue stands in the Düğmeci quarter in the centre of the city. The plot it occupies has roads on its east and west sides; the prayer halls are to the south and a two-storey residence to the north.
The building has three aisles and a gallery. In the state the directorate describes, the prayer halls and the building itself were unusable: the side walls and a few of the central arches were still standing, but the roof had gone entirely.
After restoration the building was raised again.
