The park covers 3.5 million square metres and is what the provincial directorate calls the lung of Gaziantep. It was laid out along the Alleben stream, which separates the districts of Şehitkamil and Şahinbey, and it also gives people somewhere to exercise inside the city.
Only part of it has been landscaped so far. Within it are shopping centres, a 400,000-square-metre poplar recreation ground, areas for entertainment and rest, grounds for ceremonies and concerts, picnic areas, the Fairytale Park, a botanical garden, a planetarium, tea gardens and areas set aside for social facilities.
One section takes in Batalhöyük and Recep Koç Park. There, on 108,000 square metres, stands Harikalar Diyarı — Parkantep — described as the largest amusement park in Türkiye and the Middle East; on 5,000 square metres the planetarium; and on 80,000 square metres the Fairytale Park, made up of reliefs and sculptures of Turkish folk-tale characters.
