The grand vizier Gedik Ahmet Pasha had this mosque built in Afyonkarahisar in 1472, by the architect Ayaz Ağa; its painted decoration was done by Hasan, son of Abdussamed, and it was restored in 1795 by Muftizade Ahmet. The plan is the inverted T, with two domes one behind the other. The porch on the north is covered by five domes on octagonal drums, carried on six round columns and five pointed arches.
The minaret is the thing people come to look at: single-balconied, decorated with fluted twisting forms, the flutes filled between with dark blue tiles. The entrance door is marble with muqarnas and painted ornament, and the repair inscription above it carries the date 1795. There are two rows of windows in the east, west and north walls and three in the qibla wall. Inside, the T-shaped space is covered by two large domes, with three small domes over the rooms ranged on either side. The mosque is on Kurtuluş Caddesi, within walking distance of the centre.
