The house where Evliya Çelebi was born is not standing: what is here was built anew, beside the tomb of his grandfather Kara Ahmet Bey, with the support of the Kütahya municipality and the local association for Evliya Çelebi cultural services and the repair of historic buildings.
Evliya Çelebi (1611-1683) was from Kütahya — a traveller known throughout the world, and a scholar, historian, writer and folklorist. The older building next to the mansion was expropriated by the municipality and turned into a centre where traditional handicrafts are kept alive. It is on Gümüs Eşik Sokak; take the number 10 municipal bus from the centre and get off in front of the war memorial.
