The Cevdet Sunay Museum is the house in which the fifth president of Türkiye was born and grew up, in the town of Ataköy, twenty-one kilometres from the centre of the Çaykara district of Trabzon. Sunay was born at Ataköy in 1900 and died in 1982, having served as chief of the general staff, as president, and afterwards as a senator by presidential appointment. His birthplace was restored and opened to visitors as the Cevdet Sunay House Museum in 2001.
The building is a typical village house of two storeys, its outer walls of cut stone and its inner partitions of timber. The lower floor is used as a store. The ground floor, arranged as the museum, has doors on the east and the west.
A wide hall lies at the entrance, laid out as it was used, as the living room of a traditional Black Sea village house, with the walls hung with images from Sunay's life. The room arranged as his study holds his books, photographs, plaques, certificates and other documents, together with his desk and armchairs. The bedroom holds the bedstead and bedside table he used and his other personal belongings, and the guest room is furnished with pieces that were also his.
