The fountain was built by Canfeda Kethüda Kadın, in the reign of Murad III. The inscription it carries today is not hers but a repair inscription: it records that the fountain was repaired in 1826 by Su'ada, the treasurer mistress of Mahmud II.
It is in the Orhan quarter of İzmit, a short drive from the city centre.
