Work on the Great Clock Tower began in 1881 under the governor Ziya Paşa and was finished in 1882, in the time of the governor Abidin Paşa. The provincial directorate says that with its building it became the tallest of the clock towers standing in the various provinces of the Ottoman empire, the second being the Dolmabahçe clock tower.
It is 32 metres tall, of cut stone, in the form of a square prism, built of small stone bricks — work the directorate describes as difficult to lay. It is on 25005. Sokak in the Ulucami quarter of Seyhan, near the centre and reached by minibus, public and municipal bus, and by metro.
