Bilbilan Yaylası lies east of Ardanuç in Artvin, on the boundary with Ardahan, and is reached by 51 kilometres of unsurfaced road through dark oak and pine forest. It is one of the plateaus local people still use for summer pasturing.
The season is what makes a visit worth timing. From the first week of June until the last days of September a large market runs on the plateau, trading in livestock above all but in goods of every kind.
The directorate names clear cold water and green cover as the plateau's other draws, and says it is known for its milk, its clotted cream and its butter.
