The collection here was gathered from Tekirdağ and its surroundings and runs from prehistory to the present. The provincial directorate counts 23,901 items in all, of which 4,863 are archaeological, 1,909 ethnographic and 17,129 coins, which makes the coin cabinet by far the largest part of what the museum holds.
The house it occupies was built in 1927 to the design of the architect Kazım Tahsin and served as the governor's residence until 1976, which shows in the front. The entrance on the north side is faced with blue and white İznik tiles and carries a balcony on two masonry consoles, its railing worked with circles and stars. The upper windows are arched and topped with İznik ceramic; the lower ones are rectangular with reliefs under the sills. Two further balconies stand on the west and south sides, the roof is hipped and tiled, and an inscription is set above the door.
The museum is behind the Tekirdağ Orduevi, on Rakoczi Caddesi in the Ertuğrul quarter.
