The pine wood lies immediately west of the centre of Erdemli, running between the D.400 state road, which follows the coast, and the Mediterranean shore. It is thirty-nine kilometres from Mersin and covers 26.14 hectares, chiefly of Calabrian pine.
Its official name is the Talat Göktepe Nature Park, after the forestry director who died in 1994 while fighting a forest fire on the Gallipoli peninsula in Çanakkale.
The wood was registered as a picnic ground in 1962 and as a nature park in 2011.
