The building was a school for eighty-five years. From 1926 until the Simav earthquake of 2011 it served as the Osmanbey primary school; afterwards it was reordered and opened as the Simav City Museum, run by the municipality.
The display runs from prehistory to the Republic, in photographs, documents and objects. The stated aim is to set out what the district has and to draw attention to what is being lost: the firsts of Simav, the coins struck in the town, the archaeological excavations carried out around it, remembered scenes, and the ethnographic material of its recent past.
One section is given to trades that have almost disappeared in Simav. These are staged with mannequins, section by section, alongside the tools and the things the craftsmen made — so the visit ends on work rather than on display cases.
