The Papart valley at Meydancık in Şavşat was declared a natural site in 2010, and the protection is not uniform: most of the area is first-degree, while a few settlement areas are third-degree.
The provincial directorate gives its reasons together. Human settlement here developed without breaking the natural fabric and in keeping with its surroundings; the valley holds examples of the region's own timber architecture; and the broken topography with its good forest makes what the directorate calls interesting compositions and an unbroken landscape.
