The Muradiye waterfall takes its name from Sultan Murad IV, who passed this way on campaign to Baghdad. It stands about eight kilometres north of the centre of the Muradiye district. Besides the fall itself, the vegetation that has grown up around it draws attention.
The Bendimahi stream, formed by the waters that come together on the Çaldıran plain, runs through the narrow, deep Gönderme gorge and reaches the Muradiye plain. The gorge formed over young volcanic rock, and the fall occurs at the Bendbaşı locality within the valley of the gorge.
The water comes down from different heights: eighteen metres at the centre, and fifteen to sixteen on the east and west. The lower face of the fall measures seventy-seven metres and the upper fall zone thirty-six. It forms no distinct plunge pool. The fall exists because of the young, hard mass of basalt over which the water drops.
