Maraspoli Mağarası lies beneath the castle at Ermenek in Karaman and has two entrances. Its length is given as 196 metres.
The water inside it matters to the town: an underground river running through the cave supplies the drinking water of Ermenek and the settlements around it. The same water drove a hydroelectric plant that supplied Ermenek and its villages with power for a long period — the provincial directorate puts that in the past tense.
The directorate also states that foreign experts have determined the cave to be one of the three largest in the world. It names no experts, no measure and no date, and that claim sits beside the 196 metres it gives on the same page.
