What the provincial directorate describes is old-growth forest in which, it says, every tree qualifies as a monument, and which by world nature conservation criteria is among the most important natural old forests. It does not say which criteria.
It backs the description with two figures: the area lies under constant relative humidity and receives 3,200 millimetres of rain a year, which it treats as giving the forest the character of a rainforest ecosystem.
