Güvercinada, Pigeon Island, is the small island off Kuşadası that gives the town its name and serves as its emblem. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has listed it as an open-air museum, and the fortress on the island is on UNESCO's Tentative List for World Heritage.
The castle's story goes back to the Genoese, who came to Kuşadası at the end of the thirteenth or the beginning of the fourteenth century. The island is reached through a wooden gateway and laid out with wooden walkways among its trees and walls.
