The Kula fairy chimneys cover 152 hectares in the Kula district of Manisa and were declared a natural monument on 21 December 2012, for the features produced here by natural processes and for their scientific value.
What is protected is a badlands topography lying among the volcanic formations of the Kula region, and the fairy chimneys that form part of it. Kula itself is among the few places in Türkiye and in the world where geological, archaeological, natural and cultural riches occur together.
The monument falls within the Kula Volcanic Geopark, a member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks network; the geopark received its quality certificate at the 12th European Geoparks Conference on 5 September 2013. Turkish and foreign visitors come here for nature tourism.
