The mosque at Gevaş has no building inscription, and it is generally dated to the fourteenth or fifteenth century; it is accepted as having been built by İzzettin Sir, the ruler of Van and Hakkari. The minaret in the middle of the west front is a modern addition.
The building is a square mosque with a medrese adjoining its north wall. A portal on the north part of the west front leads into the medrese courtyard, and a second door from there into the mosque. The mosque has two aisles and a dome in front of the mihrab; the aisles on the north are covered with barrel vaults set crosswise, and the sections on either side of the dome were treated as spaces under lengthwise barrel vaults. A five-sided mihrab niche stands in the middle of the qibla wall. The building is of regular cut stone, in the Hiset quarter of Gevaş.
