The Türk Ocağı building in İnebolu matters for what happened inside it on one day. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk visited the town on 25, 26 and 27 August 1925, and on 27 August he announced one of his most important messages to the world from this hall — the address the municipality's own record calls the hat speech. The building itself is an ordinary commercial and social building of its period, which is part of why the event is what people come for.
The ground floor was given over entirely to commercial use: three shops on the north front facing the sea and one on the west. A double-leaf iron door on the west front opens into the original entrance hall at the centre of the building. The door at the southwest corner of the ground floor was converted from a window, and the concrete stair to the upper floor there is a later addition. The first floor is planned around a long narrow hall running north to south with rooms on both sides and a double-flight wooden stair at its southern end; the west wing was turned into a single space with a stage and seating by removing the partition walls, and the room facing the sea on the north was made by joining three rooms. The second floor has a large rectangular hall at its centre with various rooms around it; this hall is in original condition and repeats the plan of the floor below, though at some unknown date it was enlarged by closing off the side rooms. The building is a kilometre from the town centre.
