KÜMER is Iğdır University's centre for the conservation of cultural heritage, and its museum is the part of that work the public can see. Recognition was formal rather than local: the university applied, specialists from the Kars Museum Directorate examined what was held, and the museum was established on the proposal of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums with the approval of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
It collects and keeps objects of historical and cultural value from Iğdır, and beyond the display it runs exhibitions, workshops and training in museum practice. The centre's own pages do not describe the collection itself. It is on the Karaağaç campus, in the building of the tourism faculty's training hotel.
