Esentepe stands at 1,300 metres north of Gerede, among pines a century old, with a view over the whole district. The name was given by Atatürk, who visited on 17 July 1934.
In winter there is skiing here, and on the runs four kilometres further north on Arkut Dağı it is possible to ski cross-country as well. The site is two kilometres from Gerede.
