The Geben valley in Kahramanmaraş, notable for its natural wealth and biological diversity, was declared a national park and taken among the protected areas by a decision published in the Official Gazette on 30 May 2025, following work carried out by the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks.
In terms of plant geography the park lies on the Anatolian Diagonal, an important ecological corridor, in the transition between the Irano-Turanian and Mediterranean regions. It holds 603 plant species, eighty-three of them endemic, and is notable both for that plant cover and for the range of its wildlife.
Among the features of the park, Kayranlı mountain stands out: it gives the area a silhouette of its own, looking almost as though it were cut from a single rock.
The Kırksu springs lie within the park, along with the karstic lake of Karagöl, which holds birds such as cranes, storks and ruddy shelducks; both are notable points for those interested in eco-tourism.
The Söğütovası through cave, 272 metres long with two separate entrances and exits, lies here as well, and historic buildings of the Roman period — the castles of Meryemçil and Kızıl and a Roman bath — add further to the value of the area.
