The building used as the Gazipaşa primary school in Mardin was begun in 1892 by a master builder named Lole and opened as a house in 1907, in the period of the Second Constitution, for a wealthy member of the Syriac Orthodox community named Cebbur. It served as a dwelling for many years.
It has four floors. The first was built as a cellar and stable and is now used as a dwelling; on the second, entered from the street through a large door into a wide hall, are eight rooms; the third has three rooms and the fourth ten. The interiors are the reason the building is on the list: the rooms are finely decorated in carved stone, and the decoration of each room differs from the others, so that the hall entrances and the halls themselves have something of the character of a museum. In the first years of the republic the house was sold to Abdurrezzak Satana, a former deputy for Mardin, and was later bought by the provincial special administration. It has been in educational use since 1934 and now holds ten classrooms. To find it, go east from the Latifiye Mosque and turn into 109th street on the right before reaching the cattle market.
