Gaziantep Castle stands on a hill in the centre of the city. When it was built is not known, though it is known to have been used for observation in the Hittite period. It has been restored many times through its history and took its present form in a restoration carried out at the beginning of the 2000s.
The castle is circular, 1,200 metres round, with walls of stone blocks, twelve towers and bastions.
It is used today as the Museum of the Defence of Gaziantep and the Panorama of Heroism, and the defence the city put up is presented within the castle in a forty-five-minute documentary.
