Gaziantep cooking has a museum of its own, and the building it sits in is part of the story: the Göğüş Mansion, built in 1904 just south of Gaziantep Castle, is where Ali İhsan Göğüş — one of Türkiye's first ministers of tourism — was born. Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality restored it and opened it as a museum in 2008.
What is on show is the working side of a cuisine rather than a set of recipes: the tools and vessels an Antep kitchen used, images of regional dishes that had nearly dropped out of use, and displays that run from ingredients and drinks through cooking methods and preparation to how provisions were stored. The municipality describes it as the first culinary museum established in Türkiye, and points out that Gaziantep is the only cuisine in the world known by the name of its city.
