Conkbayırı is the name given to the slope running south-west from Conk Tepesi and ending at Kemal Dere north of Düztepe; the high point at its northern end is Conk Tepesi itself.
The Atatürk Victory Monument is a bronze statue and the most recent monument built on Conkbayırı. The ministry had it made in 1993 in memory of the attack that Colonel Mustafa Kemal, commander of the Anafartalar Group, directed here on 10 August 1915, and the Directorate of the Historic Area restored it in 2015.
One spot nearby marks a particular moment. While directing the bayonet attack at Conkbayırı on 10 August 1915, Mustafa Kemal was struck in the chest by a shrapnel ball and was saved by the watch in his right breast pocket. The place where this happened is marked by four cannonballs and a plaque.
Directly in front of the monument is a walled cemetery with trees and a memorial inside it, named after the grave it holds: that of Senior Lieutenant Nazif Çakmak, company commander in the 64th Infantry Regiment of the 9th Division and brother of Marshal Fevzi Çakmak. There is no firm record of when it was built, and it too was restored in 2015. Its inscription reads that Nazif Çakmak, brother of Marshal Fevzi Çakmak, was killed here on 8 August 1915 as he threw himself at the enemy trenches at the head of his company in a bayonet charge.
