The fountain is one of the monuments built in 1901 in a great many Ottoman provinces to mark the twenty-fifth year of Abdülhamid II on the throne. It was named after Bahri Paşa, then governor of Adana.
Standing in Kuruköprü square, it was pulled down by the municipality in 1952 when the road was widened.
In 1991 and 1992, under the governorate's campaign called Respect for Our Cultural Property, a restitution project was drawn up by the architect Zeynep Çavuşoğlu and the fountain was rebuilt by the governorate.
It now stands in Atatürk Park, right in the centre of the city, and is easily reached by any means of transport.
