The Museum of Contemporary Arts stands on Anadolu University's Yunus Emre campus in the Tepebaşı district of Eskişehir, in a building from the First National Architecture period that served as a military barracks and drill hall. The exterior has been repainted in yellow and white, following the original. It sits in a green space near the car park and holds three exhibition halls alongside archives and administrative sections.
The collection was not bought as a whole; it accumulated. The Palet Art Gallery, run first by the School of Applied Fine Arts and then by the Faculty of Fine Arts, worked continuously for ten years, and the Turkish and foreign artists who exhibited there left works behind that entered the university's holdings. The museum's own collection was then drawn from that larger university collection.
It opened in 2001. The works on which it was founded came from 213 artists — 163 Turkish and 50 from abroad.
