Ahi Evran, who came to Kayseri from Khorasan at the beginning of the thirteenth century and lived between 1171 and 1262, concerned himself with the economic, social and cultural questions facing the Turkish people of Anatolia.
He brought tradesmen and craftsmen together and organised them along both occupational and moral lines, forming a social organisation. That system of organisation carried on afterwards under the name of the Ahi brotherhood.
The lodge of Ahi Evran, which houses the museum of tradesmen and craftsmen, was restored by the metropolitan municipality.
On display are the stone Ahi Evran used for curing leather, along with the tools and equipment of various trades and local objects.
The museum is open seven days a week between 8.00 and 17.00, and there is no charge for entry.
