The 26 Ağustos Tabiat Parkı was declared in April 2008 under the National Parks Law for the natural assets and recreational potential of the site. It covers 64.83 hectares in the Akören township of the Sinanpaşa district of Afyonkarahisar.
Plant survey has been carried out on 8 hectares of that area, and within those 8 hectares 87 different plant species were recorded. The species named include pedunculate and sessile oak, Anatolian chestnut, bramble, cornelian cherry, hawthorn, tree heath, Lebanon cedar, willow, oriental arborvitae, white poplar and ferns. The fauna is given more thinly: water birds along with other species, of which coot, sparrow, crow and swallow are named, together with the marsh frog.
This is a park built for use. It has an observation tower and three entrance and control buildings, lavatories, car parks, a country restaurant, open sports grounds with six tennis courts, two artificial-turf pitches and a basketball court, a children's playground, a horse shelter, a prayer room, service buildings, a kiosk, picnic units and barbecues. Six local-produce stalls and the country restaurant stand at the entrance, and Afyonkarahisar regional products can be bought there. A paved ring road about 1.8 kilometres long runs round the day-use area. Stated capacity is 4,200 visitors, 250 vehicles and 50 tents.
The park lies at a road junction: 16 kilometres from the centre of Afyonkarahisar and 15 from Sinanpaşa, where the Afyonkarahisar, İzmir and Antalya roads meet, with connections onward to Ankara and Konya, to Kütahya and to İzmir. Nearby stand the İstiklal interpretation centre and the Büyük Taarruz war cemetery.
