The Ziya Gökalp Museum is the house in which the sociologist and writer Ziya Gökalp was born, on Gökalp Sokak off Melik Ahmet Caddesi in Diyarbakır. It opened as a museum on 23 March 1956 and shows collections of his personal belongings and papers together with ethnographic works from the region.
The house is one of the typical examples of domestic architecture in Diyarbakır: two storeys built of black basalt at the beginning of the nineteenth century, made up of the harem and selamlık apartments meeting around an inner courtyard. It passed to Gökalp's family in 1824, and he was born in it in 1876.
The museum was burned in October 2014 during the Kobani protests, and its archive and library were destroyed.
