The Yıldız Urban Archive and Museum in Ödemiş opened on 25 February 2012, and it is three things at once: a museum, an archive and a library, run by the municipality.
It occupies the upper and lower floors of the old Yıldız Hotel — fourteen rooms and four corridors — together with one room on the ground floor of the Keçecizade Han and a 155-square-metre exhibition hall. Two-thirds of the collection is on show at any time, in glazed cases through some 455 square metres of rooms, corridors and hall, and in the open in the inner courtyard.
The numbers give the scale. The museum's own collection figure is 6,219 movable cultural objects, though the page elsewhere describes the holdings as close to 9,600. The archive holds 20,815 documents across 29 collections. The library runs to 3,619 catalogued books, split between a general library, a periodicals and newspapers library, a dictionary library, the Savaş and Recep Bassoy library, and a thesis library. Objects come in by donation and by purchase.
