The Seljuk kiosk in Konya, also called the Alaeddin kiosk, was built in the reign of Kılıç Arslan II, between 1156 and 1192, and was repaired and enlarged by Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad. It was built with two storeys, and its walls are decorated with tilework and bands of inscription.
Excavations carried out in recent years by the Konya museum directorate have brought new material to light, and restoration projects are continuing on the strength of it, so the building is a work in progress rather than a finished monument. Its significance is what came after it: it is described as a Seljuk palace building that was an important source of inspiration for the palaces of Bursa, Edirne and Topkapı, and particularly for their justice towers. It stands on Alaaddin Hill beside the Alaaddin Mosque, within the Mevlana culture valley.
