Parkorman Tabiat Parkı was declared on 3 June 2008 and covers about 148.12 hectares inside the Fatih forest in the Sarıyer district of İstanbul. Its stated capacity — 18,000 visitors and 350 vehicles — says what kind of place it is: a city park within a forest.
Mixed coniferous and broadleaved stands dominate, mostly conifers with broadleaves, shrubs and bushes in places, and it is the shrub layer that the Directorate singles out for its diversity. In the forest areas grow black, Calabrian, Scots and stone pine, Hungarian, pedunculate and sessile oak, Anatolian chestnut, oriental beech, hornbeam, ash, oriental plane, bramble, tree heath and butcher's broom.
Around the concert area and inside the Japanese garden the planting is ornamental rather than native: Japanese maple, Turkish hazel, blackthorn, laurustinus, savin juniper, oleaster, cherry laurel, Japanese laurel, privet, Chinese photinia, southern magnolia, weeping goat willow, oleander and loquat around the concert ground, and in the Japanese garden hornbeam, Calabrian pine, Hungarian oak, bamboo, bonsai, Japanese flowering cherry, lily magnolia and Japanese maple.
The park lies on Büyükdere Caddesi heading from Maslak towards Sarıyer, on the left-hand side opposite the private Acıbadem hospital. By public transport, take the Yenikapı–Hacıosman metro to Darüşşafaka, or a Sarıyer bus to the Fatih Ormanı stop and walk from there.
