Marmaris Museum stands within Marmaris Castle in the Marmaris district of Muğla, and shows archaeological and ethnographic works. The castle was rebuilt in 1522 on the order of Süleyman the Magnificent during the campaign against Rhodes; after restoration it was arranged as a museum and opened to visitors in 1991.
The museum both preserves the historic fabric of the castle and presents the archaeology of the region. It holds a substantial part of the finds from the ancient city of Knidos, which gives it weight for the archaeological record of the area. From the castle there is a panoramic view over Marmaris.
The museum works under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and is open through the year. Visitor numbers rise in the summer months.
