Küçük Kargı Nature Park is worth distinguishing from its neighbours on the Yanıklar coast of Fethiye by one measure: oriental sweetgum, an endemic Anatolian tree, covers about 55 per cent of it. Forest is the dominant ecosystem at 78 per cent of the park's 15.28 hectares, dune the second, and it is the sweetgum stand, the sea and the landscape that the directorate names as the draw.
The area was registered as a type B recreation site in 2008 and declared a nature park by the ministry on 11 July 2011. It falls inside the Fethiye-Göcek Specially Protected Area. Across the park and its surroundings, at different times of year, 62 plants, 13 reptiles and amphibians, four mammals and 11 birds can be seen. Sweetgum, red pine, oleander and myrtle grow with the Mediterranean maquis; squirrel, hedgehog, wild boar, jay, crow, blackbird, sparrow, hoopoe, rock mouse, a field lizard, a night frog and the Greek tortoise are the animals listed.
Facilities are for the day rather than the night: a country restaurant, a kiosk, arbours and a car park, with showers, toilets and changing cabins. Capacity is 1,000 visitors and 200 vehicles, and the gates are open from 08:00 to 19:00.
The park is about 16 kilometres from Fethiye town centre towards Muğla. From the Köyler Garajı in Fethiye, line 3-50 stops at the junction on the main road, leaving about 700 metres on foot to the gate.
