Gaziantep has a second museum of city history, and it is not the one most visitors find: the Gaziantep Culture History Museum occupies the ground floor of Gaziantep University's library building, and the municipality describes it as set up for the university's own students — to teach them the culture of the city they are studying in. It opened on 25 December 2009.
The collection runs chronologically from the city's emergence in the 12th century to the present, through objects that carry daily life rather than high politics: household and handicraft pieces, plus fossils collected and donated from Gaziantep and its surroundings. The thematic sections are unusually specific — notable figures the city produced, the Antep dialect and its features, events that shaped the city, family and everyday life and special days, children's games and toys, entertainment, photography, and Karagöz shadow puppetry.
There is also a laboratory and workshop section, used as practical space for the archaeology department's museology classes. Because the museum's stated audience is the university's students, it is worth contacting the university before making a trip out to it.
