This is a small museum in an unexpected place: the ground floor of the rectorate building on the campus of İnönü University in Malatya, in a hall fitted out for the purpose. It was set up before 2003 in memory of İsmet İnönü, Türkiye's second president, and was given the status of a private museum by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on 9 June 2003.
The objects and documents were given by the İnönü Foundation. The aim, as the governor's office puts it, was to bring together, display and make known part of a collection of İnönü's personal effects, photographs and papers, and to keep his memory in use rather than in storage.
What is on show is largely personal: clothing, everyday things he used, the orders and medals he was awarded, copies of documents relating to the Treaty of Lausanne, photographs and photocopies of letters, and small objects — his wallet, his field glasses, his pocket watch, his coffee cup, his walking stick.
It opens every day except Saturday and Sunday, from 08:00 to 17:00. Buses and minibuses run to the campus from the centre of Malatya.
