Havran's town museum occupies the Hocazade Mansion, one of the grandest houses in this Balıkesir district. Hocazade Abdürrahim Efendi had it built in 1912 on a plot of about 1,900 square metres, of which roughly 800 are house and 1,100 garden. The ground floor is of mixed stone and brick and the two floors above of brick alone, with thirteen rooms, a two-room kitchen and a small bath with its own furnace.
The museum opened on 8 September 2017, the 95th anniversary of Havran's liberation from occupation. Inside, the story of the town is told in order, from antiquity through the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods to the Republic, in panels written in plain everyday language and backed by period objects, tools and black-and-white photographs of local social life, industry and trade. Flash photography, filming, food and pets are not allowed, and the house has stairs.
